Henry Berliner was the son of Émile Berliner, an early pioneer in the design and development of vertical lift aircraft. He carried on his father's work after his father fell into poor health. He subsequently developed various versions of coaxial type helicopters and hybrid airplane/vertical lift aircraft using side-by-side lifting rotors.
