The Indian Armed Light Helicopter. The Indian government took on the project in July 1984; it was assigned to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). The task was in cooperation with Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm (MBB) and Turboméca.

The Dhruv helicopter was instrumental to rescues during the 2004 tsunami, the 2010 flash floods at Leh, the 2011 earthquake in Sikkim, the flood of Uttarakhand in June 2013 and the Jammu & Kashmir flood relief operation in September 2014.
